Stay Hydrated, Stay Cool!
Hello summer, hello heat! As the days are getting longer, they are also getting warmer. Hotter temperatures make dehydration and heat stroke leading safety concerns.
Our bodies lose water through perspiration, so be sure to drink enough fluids throughout the day to stay hydrated. Additionally, wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing to help stay cooler. Seek out air-conditioned environments during the hottest parts of the day and, if you’re outdoors, take frequent breaks in the shade.
Signs of heat stroke may include body temperature of 103°F or higher; hot, red, dry or damp skin; rapid pulse; headache, dizziness, nausea or confusion; and even loss of consciousness. If you suspect someone has heat stroke, call 911 immediately. While waiting for help, move the person to a cooler place, remove excess clothing, and try to cool them down with cool cloths or a cool bath. Do not give them anything to drink if they are unconscious.
