Reminder to License Your Dog in Pennsylvania for 2026

Licensing your dog isn’t just the law in Pennsylvania — it’s one of the most important ways to protect pets, families, and communities statewide.

A dog license is more than a tag on a collar. License fees fund Pennsylvania’s dog wardens and animal safety system, which helps return lost dogs home, monitors dangerous dogs, inspects kennels, shuts down illegal breeders and puppy mills, prevents the spread of disease, and supports shelters and farmers across the Commonwealth.

For 2026, an annual dog license costs $10.80, with a discounted rate of $8.80 for senior citizens and residents with disabilities.
Lifetime licenses are also available for dogs with permanent identification, such as a microchip or tattoo.

All dogs in Pennsylvania must be licensed at the point of purchase or adoption, or by three months of age if ownership has not changed. Dogs without a lifetime license must be licensed annually by January 1. Failing to license a dog can result in fines of up to $500 plus court costs.

A visible license tag is the fastest way to reunite a lost dog with its owner. Unlike microchips, license tags can be seen immediately by anyone who finds a dog, helping keep pets out of shelters and back where they belong.

Dog licenses are available through your county treasurer or authorized licensing agents, and many counties offer online purchasing.

2026 Township Scholarship Information Now Available

The 2026 East Donegal Township Board of Supervisors Scholarship Program information, and application, is now available for pick-up at the Township Office, 190 Rock Point Road, or can be downloaded here: 2026 Scholarship Application Info 2026 Scholarship Application Form.

Started in 2015, the program awards a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior currently attending Donegal High School, and a resident of East Donegal Township, that plans to further their education as a full-time student at an accredited junior college, college, university, or vocational school.  Award money is for one year only and for the purposes of tuition, books, and fees only.

A scholarship award selection considers (no priority given) field of study, character, scholastic record, involvement in community work, written recommendations and extracurricular activities of all applicants in determining the scholarship recipient.  Financial need is not an eligibility factor.

The application deadline is 4:00 PM April 09, 2026. Winners will be notified in writing by May 08, 2026, and will be invited to attend the Donegal School District’s Awards Program to be held on Monday, May 18, 2026.  The winner will also be asked to attend an East Donegal Township Board of Supervisors meeting and have their picture taken for the Township newsletter.

Scholarship awards will be paid directly to the school attended by the scholarship winner upon receipt of verification of enrollment at a college, university, or vocational school, successful completion of one semester of full-time enrollment and invoice of tuition for second semester of enrollment.

Employees and Board of Supervisors of East Donegal Township and their immediate family members are not eligible.
